THE UNDER THE ANGEL HOUSE

It is worthwhile seeing.

The house was built in the early 1630s by a rich Armenian merchant, Garbriel Bartoszewicz. A carved figure of the founder’s saint patron, the Archangel Gabriel holding a lily, is located in the niche on the first floor. The walls of the second floor are decorated with lions standing on both sides of a centrally-located dragon. The lions are to protect the house against the evil shown as the dragon. Inside the original beam roofs and magnificent frames of twin windows have been preserved. The back room on the ground floor has a rich Renaissance décor with many plant decorations. At present the building houses the Zamość Museum.
