DROHICZYN, the HISTORICAL CAPITAL of PODLASIE

General

Type d'unité:

A thousand-year-old Drohiczyn glitters like the waters of the Bug river in the rays of the rising sun. Evidence of great history can be seen at every step one takes.

We go back in time when sightseeing the ancient monuments. The Castle Hill seems to dominate over the town with the old rampart, at present the best point to view the surrounding area, where one can see the bend of the Bug river with sandy islands and the white walls of the 17th century Cathedral, one of the four churches in Drohiczyn. All of them were built in baroque style, yet the most interesting one is the rebuilt Benedictine church and convent from XVIII century-   “ 0” class relic of unique elevation. During “Drohiczyn Days”, a town festival usually celebrated at the end of July and the beginning of August, local groups perform, masquerades, sports competitions, lectures and firemen shows are held. Lovers of angling should not leave disappointed as there are great fishing areas for pikes, catfish and other species typical of large rivers.
