The jewel of the Old Market in Żary is its Lusatian town hall from the turnover of 14th and 15th century that was remodeled not long time ago. The southern wing originally housed the clothiers in the basement and the city counselors on the first floor. In 1617 most of the northern part of the town hall was burnt during a big fire. After that, the new, existing, western wing was built with the brick tower from 1700. Over the entrance one may see a beautiful renaissance portal with mosaic from 1929. Worth seeing are also old houses which surround the town hall. The oldest ones were built in the 17th century. The glass fountain is one of the youngest elements of the old market square.
