Historic Silver Mine



The only underground tourist route in Poland that allows exploration of the underground passages of a former mine containing silver-bearing ore. The route is 1740m long and includes a boat ride along a 270m long underground section.



FEATURES, ORIGINS, VALUES AND LEGAL PROTECTION
From the entrance the tourist route descends to a depth of 40.5m. The trail is a sequence of excavation chambers and corridors radiating out from three mineshafts, “Aniol”, “Szczesc Boze” and “Zmija”. On the route, visitors will encounter mining faces worked from the 16th to the 19th centuries, work stations of former miners, their tools, a variety of underground cavities that have been shaped by man and nature from the remnants of the silver-bearing galena, limestone and karst formations as well as underground water reservoirs. The boat ride along a 270m long flooded passageway is an extraordinary adventure which remain for a long time in the memory. On the surface there is the Museum of Mining, the Steam Engine Heritage Park, a restaurant, a cinema and conference facility, a kiosk selling minerals and souvenirs and a car park. The Historic Silver Mine, together with the “Black Trout” Adit are part of a vast, underground labyrinth made up of workings, corridors, chambers and passageways with a total length of about 150km. The historic silver mine made available to the public in 1976.

ACCESSIBILITY OF FACILITIES BY VISITORS
The mine is closed on 1st January, Easter Sunday and Corpus Christi, 1st and 11th November, 24th till 26th December and 31st December.
Length of the route is about 1740m which includes a boat ride of 270m.
The temperature inside is between 10° C and 14° C humidity is between 80% and 90%.

The route is electrically illuminated.
The facility is suitable for people with physical disabilities but prior arrangement is required on Tel: 0 32 285 29 81.
Guided tours only.
We recommend comfortable, athletic shoes and warm clothing in the summer.
Individual visitors should report directly to mine at their pre-arranged time.
All organised tours are required to book in advance.
In addition, by special request, a meeting can be arranged with the “Treasurer”, a legendary spirit of the mine and a “Mining Show” in one of the underground chambers.
