The wonderful Baroque architecture.

One of Lublin`s oldest churches, typically associated with the relics of the Holy Cross, the wonderful Baroque architecture and the unique interior monuments relating the city`s tragedies and triumphs. Founded by King Casimir the Great in 1342 and originally Gothic in style, the basilica now has a new, Baroque look it achieved in a reconstruction after the great fire in 1575. The three-nave interior is surrounded by 11 chapels, richly furnished by well-to-do founders in Baroque sculpture, easel and mural paintings and uncommon architectural details decorating the interior of the naves. The oldest among them include: the late Gothic painting of Our Lady with a Fruit, the tomb of Mikołaj and Piotr Firlej from the workshop of Gianmaria Padovano and an unusual iconographic document from 1719: the Fire of the City of Lublin.
