Jan Szczepanik, the most versatile Polish inventor, was also connected with Tarnów. The pioneer of colour photography, television and colour films, precursor of modern textile industry, including the bullet-proof jacket.

He was born on 13 June 1872 near Przemyśl and was professionally connected with Berlin and Dresden. He died on 8 November 1926 and was buried in Tarnów. While wondering around Tarnów we can: stop at No 11 Chopin Street (Szczepanik family house) and No 11 Sowińskiego Street, where the inventor spent several years of successful work on colour photography and diapositives. At the Regional Museum, in "Apoteoza" collection, we can admire the largest tapestry woven with Szczepanik's method, made on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Franc Joseph's I reigns. The grave of this great inventor, situated in the family grave of Dzikowski and Szczepanik families, is located at the Old Cemetery in Zabłocie quarter - the oldest Tarnów's necropolis from the 1790s. The only monument of Jan Szczepanik is located at Szczepanika Square next to the school where you can find a memorial room with mementos of the "Polish Edison". More: www.go-tarnow.com
