Tarnow’s Jewish Walk

General

Type d'unité:

The somewhat exotic sounding words like mikvah, kirkut or bimah were part of the language of nearly half of the inhabitants of Tarnόw right up to the Second World War – that is the Jews.

The Jewish Walk holds many mementos after them. The walk from the town square leads through the little streets of the Jewish old town right up to the ruins of the 17th century synagogue of which the bimah still remains. Next it takes us up to the Jewish cemetery - a kirkut - with tombstones dating as far back as the 17th century. On the way we pass the mikvah – the ritual bath. It is also worth taking a look at the rich Judaica collection at the regional museum. Every year in June Remembrance Days for the Jews of Tarnόw are organized as well as concerts of Jewish music “Pod Bimą” (Under the Bimah). More: www.go-tarnow.com
